In today’s video, Alex and I are going to share three reasons why you should retire right now plus a bonus tip of what has successfully worked for many of our clients, which has to do with working part-time while transitioning into retirement. By the end of this video, you’ll have a fresh perspective to make a confident retirement decision and make sure to stay to the end will point you to a previous video where we talk about the red flags of why you should not retire.

Hey there, its Anthony and Alex with One Degree Advisors and we help you gain confidence in your retirement. So Alex, let’s get into it. Reason number one, as far as retirement is that you’re financially ready.

Alex Okugawa 0:36
Yeah, maybe you’re ready, but you don’t know it. So the question is, do you have a plan in place? Do you know how much is enough? A lot of people, you know, they have enough. But because they don’t have a plan, and they don’t know what they’re going to do once they retire. Oftentimes, they actually delay retirement, which is a real shame, because again, they have the resources to do it. Now, I’m not saying that people should just jump into retirement with both feet without doing any planning. But if you’ve done your homework, if you’ve looked at the numbers, you’ve put this together in a comprehensive plan, and you can say definitively, yes, I can say with reasonable confidence that we can retire successfully. The question is, what are you waiting for? And what is it that’s making that hang up? Where you can’t make that leap into retirement?

Anthony Saffer 1:23
That really is the number one question is do I have enough to live on in retirement? Do I have enough money to sustain my retirement is what we consistently help people with. Alright, number two is that the clock is ticking and time is a resource.

Alex Okugawa 1:37
Yeah, what is it costing you to not retire? Right? So money is simply a tool to get you where you want to go. And we’ve all heard about this. So I’m not going to harp on it. But time is the great equalizer, right? We all have the same number of hours in the day, whether you’re a billionaire, or you’re someone who doesn’t have a lot of money, we all have the same amount of time. So how are you maximizing the time, to the best potential for you? And I want to cover this real quick.

So I’m gonna look over here because these are the Top Five Regrets people have on their deathbed, as reported by a nurse and I’ll go through these quickly. Number one, I wish I didn’t work so hard. They missed the important things in life. Number two, I wish I had the courage to live a life true to myself and not what others had expected of me. Number three, I wish I had the courage to express my feelings. Number four, I wish I had stayed in touch with friends and relationships. We’ve seen the data relationships are so important in our lives to have a successful and fulfilling life. And then number five, I wish I let myself be happier. That’s so important. Happiness really is a choice, and you can choose to be happy.

Anthony Saffer 2:46
Those are so telling. And none of them have to do with not with money. Right? Exactly. So and viewers, if you can comment and just let us know, like, what are the things that you do to try and minimize regret, you know, as you live your life and you come to the end there and say these are the things that I am not going to regret. And if you’d like today’s content, please like and subscribe, we’d love to have you subscribe and see more of our videos. All right, Alex. Reason number three is that you currently have the energy and the health to enjoy retirement.

Alex Okugawa 3:20
Yeah, what’s the point of working and grinding so hard to accumulate this massive amount of wealth if you don’t have the energy or the health to enjoy it. And so there’s a common I don’t know if acronym is the right word, but a phrase where it’s called the go-go years, the slow-go years, and then the no-go years. And so your go-go years are really defined as that first stage in retirement, typically, it starts around 65. But that can be earlier if you do retire earlier. And that’s when you do have a lot of energy. This is when we see our clients do a lot of traveling, they like to get out and exercise and be active because again, you still have the energy to do so and really enjoy your life, the slow-go years or when things start to slow down, right? You’ve probably been feeling some aches and pains, but now they really start to add up. And so you have to slow down, you’re not able to do as much as you previously were. And then you really go into the no-go years and the no-go years on average typically starts around 85 or so. And that’s really when health challenges typically arise in this in this stage, your energy usually just isn’t there. So, you know, you’re, you’re more confined to the home. And so understanding the stages is important because as you look at your life and how long you may, you know, be in the airport retirement timeline, making sure that you’re maximizing those go-go years when you still have the energy to travel in and utilize the wealth that you’ve accumulated.

Anthony Saffer 4:49
Yeah, we can’t fully predict our expenses, but planning really just goes a long way to try to map that out the best we can. And we’re talking about retiring now but there are also reasons that people should not retire. We previously recorded a video really talking about four red flags of why someone should not retire, credit card debt, auto loans, and even a mortgage. Also, not knowing what you spend a mortgage can be somewhat controversial. We do have some reasons for that, which we explained in the video. We’d love to hear your thoughts as well. We’ll go ahead and post a link to that up here. And you can go ahead and watch that. Thanks for watching.

Once again, it’s Anthony Saffer. With One Degree Advisors. We recently posted a guide to five retirement mistakes to avoid, you can go ahead and download that for free. We’ll post a link in the show notes. Thanks for watching.
